This agreement is between you and Alienworld Technology Berhad (company number to be added), L2-03 & L3-03, Netizen Residensi, Lebuh Utama Tun Hussein Onn, 43200 Cheras, Selangor, Malaysia ("we", "us"). It covers Hangar, every version of it we release, and its documentation. By installing or using Hangar, you agree to it. If you don't agree, please don't install or use Hangar.

If you buy a licence, the Terms of Sale and Account Terms and the Refund Policy also apply. Your purchase is handled by Paddle.com, our reseller.

1. Hangar Free and Hangar Pro

Hangar comes in two forms, from the same download:

  • Hangar Free is a complete file manager for the files on your Mac. It is free to use, for as long as you like, with no licence, account or connection needed.
  • Hangar Pro adds the features for servers and bigger jobs, such as server connections, folder sync and compare, verify after copy, advanced rename, photo culling, workspaces and the developer tools. Pro needs a trial or a licence. The pricing page lists what each includes.

2. The trial

  • Every download starts with a free 14-day trial of Hangar Pro. It needs no card, account or sign-up.
  • The trial starts the first time you open Hangar on a Mac, and it belongs to that Mac. Each Mac gets one trial. If the Mac is offline at first launch, the trial still starts then, and Hangar registers it the next time it connects.
  • When the trial ends, Hangar becomes Hangar Free, permanently. Your files are untouched. Saved connections, sync profiles and rename presets stay listed and can be exported, and using them needs Pro. A job that started during the trial always finishes.

3. Your licence

When you buy Hangar Pro, we grant you a perpetual, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use Hangar Pro:

  • for one person, the person the licence was bought for;
  • on up to the number of Macs your licence covers, which is 2 unless your licence says otherwise. The number shown on your licence is the one that applies;
  • for any purpose, including work and commercial use by that person.

An organisation can buy licences for the people who use Hangar. Each licence is still for one person.

The licence never expires. It covers every version of Hangar released while your updates are included (section 4), and you may keep using those versions for as long as you like.

4. Updates and renewal

  • Your licence includes 12 months of updates from the day you buy it.
  • Every version released in that time is yours to keep, with all of Hangar Pro, for good. A version counts as released on the release date we publish with it.
  • To get another 12 months of updates, you can renew for US$15. A renewal is a one-time purchase, never automatic, and it is optional. If you renew after your updates have ended, the new months count from the day you renew.
  • A version released after your updates end runs as Hangar Free until you renew. Hangar tells you this before you install such an update, so you can choose not to install it and keep using the last version your licence covers.
  • Hangar Free gets every update at no cost.

5. Activation and check-ins

  • Activation. You activate Hangar Pro on a Mac with the key we email you, either by opening the activation link in that email or by pasting the key into Hangar. Activation needs an internet connection.
  • Check-ins. About once every 7 days, Hangar checks your licence with us in the background when the Mac is online. The Privacy Notice explains exactly what it sends. It never sends anything about your files.
  • Offline use. Hangar Pro keeps working for up to 60 days without a connection. After that, Pro pauses and Hangar works as Hangar Free until the Mac connects again, when Pro comes back on its own. A network problem on its own never turns Pro off.
  • Deactivation. You can free a Mac's place on your licence by deactivating it in Hangar on that Mac, or from your Alienworld account for a Mac you no longer have. A deactivated Mac becomes Hangar Free the next time it connects, and you can activate it again later.
  • Idle Macs. A Mac that hasn't checked in for 90 days frees its place by itself when you need the place for another Mac. If it later checks in again, it gets its place back if one is free.

6. What you may not do

You may not:

  • copy Hangar for other people, or give, sell, rent, lend or sublicense your licence or Hangar Pro to anyone else;
  • share your key, or use one licence for more people or more Macs than it covers;
  • remove, disable or get around Hangar's licensing, trial or update checks, or use a key or licence you know was not issued by us;
  • reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble Hangar, except to the extent that the law of your country expressly allows it despite this restriction;
  • remove or change any notice of our ownership in Hangar.

7. Hangar Free stays free

Hangar Free is not a trial. You can use it on any number of Macs, for as long as you like, at no cost. Hangar Free stays a complete file manager for the files on your Mac, and safety features such as undo, conflict handling and the error report are always free.

8. Ownership

Hangar is licensed to you, not sold. We and our licensors own Hangar, including its code, design, name and logo, and all rights in it. This agreement gives you only the rights it states.

9. Ending the licence

  • You can stop using Hangar at any time by deleting it.
  • If you seriously breach this agreement, for example by sharing your key or getting around the licensing, we may end your licence by telling you, or by withdrawing it through the licence service. A refund also ends a licence, as the Refund Policy explains.
  • When a licence ends, Hangar becomes Hangar Free on your Macs the next time it checks in. Ending a licence never deletes, locks or changes your files, and you may keep using Hangar Free.
  • Sections 6, 8, 10, 11 and 13 continue after a licence ends.

10. No warranty

We work hard to make Hangar reliable and to protect your files. Even so, to the extent the law allows, Hangar is provided "as is" and "as available", without any warranty that it will be free of errors or interruptions, or that it will suit a particular purpose. Keep backups of anything that matters, especially before large copies, moves or syncs.

Nothing in this section affects rights you have under consumer law that can't be excluded, such as a right to goods or digital content that matches its description.

11. Limit of liability

Nothing in this agreement limits or excludes any liability that the law does not allow us to limit or exclude, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Subject to that:

  • we are not liable for loss of data, profits, business or opportunity, or for any indirect or consequential loss, arising from your use of, or inability to use, Hangar;
  • our total liability to you under this agreement is limited to the amount you paid for your licence and any renewals. If you use Hangar Free or a trial, you paid nothing, and our liability is limited to what the law requires.

12. Export

Hangar uses encryption, for example for secure connections to servers. You agree to follow the export control and sanctions laws that apply to you when you download, use or move Hangar.

13. Governing law

This agreement is governed by the laws of Malaysia, and the courts of Malaysia can hear any dispute about it. If you are a consumer, you also keep any protection that the mandatory laws of the country where you live give you.

14. Changes

We may update this agreement for later versions of Hangar. The version of this agreement that applied when you bought your licence continues to apply to the versions that licence covers, unless you agree to a later one.
