Public beta in DecemberHangar 1.0 in early 2027

The file manager you trust with your NAS and your servers.

Hangar is a dual-pane file manager for macOS. It has a keyboard for everything, a column view that works in half a window, and copies that keep going when one file goes wrong.

Requires a Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 15 or laterTry Pro free for 14 days. No card needed.

Hangar app icon: an amber folder shaped like a hangar arch on a graphite tile

Two panes in column view. The amber edge marks the active pane, and the other pane is where copies go.

Why Hangar

Built for the files that live on other machines.

Copies you can trust

One unreadable file never stops a job. Hangar skips it, copies everything else, and gives you a report that lists each failed file and the reason. Retry failed sends just those files again.

Every operation can be undone, from a copy to a batch rename. With Hangar Pro, each copied file can be checked against the original after it lands.

Commander keys, Finder manners

The other pane is always the copy target. The keymap avoids clashes with macOS shortcuts and needs no function keys. If you prefer F5 and F6, a Commander keymap is one setting away.

Four views, per pane

Columns, List, Tree and Icons, chosen per pane. Each folder can remember its own, and the column view stays usable at half a window.

Servers that stay responsive PRO

Hangar reads your ~/.ssh/config, so your hosts, keys, ssh-agent and ProxyJump hops work the same way they do in Terminal. SFTP transfers keep many requests in flight at once instead of waiting on each one.

SMB shares on your NAS and S3 storage sit in the same sidebar. Slow servers load in the background, so the window keeps responding while a big folder lists.

Shares you mount in Finder work in Hangar Free.

Batch rename

Replace text, add numbers and change case with a live preview that counts clashes before anything changes. Regex and photo metadata come with Pro.

Folder sync PRO

A dry run shows every copy and deletion before it happens. Compare panes marks newer, different and missing files.

Your files stay your business

No analytics, no tracking. Hangar does not report what you open, copy or connect to.

Quiet licence checks. About once a week, with a hashed identifier for your Mac and nothing about your files.

Good macOS manners. Works without Full Disk Access. Browsing iCloud Drive never starts a download you did not ask for.

Photo culling PRO

Pick, reject and rate with single keys, then move the picks to the other pane. RAW and JPEG pairs travel together. Viewing photos is free.

Themes

Graphite, Paper, Midnight and High Contrast come with Hangar Free. Pro adds more.

The rest of a working day

All in Hangar Free unless marked Pro.

Tabs and pinned tabs

Keep many folders open in each pane. Pinned tabs stay at the front and come back with the window.

Folder sizes

See how big a folder really is, one at a time or for every folder in view.

Quick Look and preview

Press Space for Quick Look, or keep a preview pane open beside your files.

Archives

Open a zip like a folder, extract what you need, or make a new zip from a selection.

Finder tags

The same tags and colours as Finder, in the sidebar and as a column.

Developer tools PRO

Git status badges, a size browser, a viewer for huge files, a built-in diff, a shelf, the hangar command-line tool and AppleScript.

Free and Pro

Free for your Mac. Pro for your servers.

Pay once and keep what you paid for. There is no subscription.

Every download starts with 14 days of Hangar Pro, free. No card, no sign-up. After that, Hangar keeps working as Hangar Free, permanently.

Questions

Before you ask

Short answers about the beta, the trial and the licence.

When can I get Hangar?

A public beta is planned for December. Hangar 1.0 follows in early 2027. Hangar requires a Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 15 or later.

Do I need a card or an account for the trial?

No. The 14-day trial of Hangar Pro starts the first time you open Hangar, and it belongs to that Mac. There is nothing to fill in and no card to enter.

What happens when the trial ends?

Hangar becomes Hangar Free, permanently: a complete file manager for your Mac. You see one short note explaining what changed, and it does not come back. A copy that started during the trial always finishes.

What happens after my 12 months of updates?

Nothing stops working, and the licence never expires. You keep every version released during your 12 months, with all of Hangar Pro, for good.

When you want newer versions, renew for US$15 to get another 12 months of updates.

Is this a subscription?

No. Hangar Pro is a one-time purchase. Renewing for more updates is optional and never automatic.

How many Macs can I use it on?

One licence is for one person on up to 2 Macs. To move to a new Mac, deactivate an old one in Hangar or in your Alienworld account. A Mac unused for 90 days frees its place by itself.

Does Hangar run on Intel Macs?

No. Hangar is built for Apple silicon. It requires a Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 15 or later.

Hangar app icon

Try Pro free for 14 days. No card needed.

After the trial, Hangar keeps working as Hangar Free for as long as you like. It never locks you out of your files.
